The risk factors for suicide and suicidality among serving and ex-serving ADF personnel may exist across many aspects of life and service. How they related to each other is complex.

Understanding complex risk factors to prevent suicide and suicidality requires knowledge and understanding of:

  • ADF service and post-service life;

  • the multiple drivers behind suicide and suicidality including housing, finance, family and interpersonal relationships, access to services and supports, and psychological factors such as feelings of purpose and belonging.

The Commissioner will draw evidence, insight and advice from a range of source, including data, research, suicide prevention and wellbeing, and people with lived experience.
